The Power of Film and a Passion for Justice:
A Workshop on Merging What You Love Doing
& What You Believe is Worth Doing

 Award-winning Film Maker, Gerry Straub

Ten years ago, Gerry Straub decided to turn his attention from producing award-winning TV shows like General Hospital, Capitol, and the Doctors and working with A-list Hollywood talent like Alec Baldwin, Demi Moore, Teri Hatcher, and others to using the power of film to highlight the situation of the poor.  Since then, Straub has produced eight documentaries chronicling the plight of the poor in eleven international locales and the U.S.  His latest film is on peace activist, John Dear.

Showing segments from his films and drawing on his professional and personal experience, Gerry will engage students in discussion and reflection on topics such as: the challenges, insights, and rewards of putting one's talent and skills to work for peace and justice; the power of the media and its potential to effect social change; sustaining one's passion for justice over the long haul; taking a contemplative stance behind the camera, and the stories waiting to be told.  This workshop will blend both the practical and spiritual.
